Tesco continue to champion English Wine
Tesco has reinforced its ongoing support of the English wine industry with the latest release of Tesco Finest English White 2011 which has been produced exclusively for Tesco by Denbies Wine Estate, England’s largest vineyard. This follows on from the success of the 2010 vintage and the introduction earlier in the year of Tesco’s expanding English range to include Broadwood’s Folly Quality English Sparkling wine, also made by Denbies Wine Estate. Tesco has committed to a stock increase of the 2011 Tesco Finest* English White following growing consumer interest in quality English wines. This is further strengthened by the success of English wine in the international wine competitions, both wines receiving international medals in the IWC and IWSC.
The wine was produced from grapes grown on the estate, a blend of Reichensteiner, Bacchus, Ortega, and the more familiar Chardonnay. Such is the enthusiasm that the Tesco wine team will be visiting the estate during harvest to assist with the picking of the grapes for the next vintage, a real ‘hands-on’ commitment to the product.
“The ongoing relationship between Tesco and Denbies represents a significant milestone for Denbies and English wines in general, making a positive statement to the UK consumer”, commented Christopher White, General Manager of Denbies Wine Estate.
