GinKing: The summer cocktail that combines sparkling wine and gin
Is there anything nicer than a cool, crisp glass of wine on a summer’s evening? How about a perfect gin and tonic? If you’ve found yourself nodding your head in vigorous agreement at both, let us introduce you to GinKing, which is a glorious blend of the two.
Litmus Wines, the company behind this genius creation, crafted GinKing after managing director John Worontschak’s wife was contemplating either a G&T or English sparkling wine one evening and ‘wondered out loud what a combination of both would be like’.
The answer, as it turns out, is a refreshing, ready-to-drink summer cocktail with infused botanicals, with a fresh, clean and light flavour. And while the inclusion of both wine and gin may seem excessive at first, GinKing has been blended so that it’s actually a lower-alcohol option, with 8.5% vol per 75cl bottle – that’s around 1.1 units per serving.
The best news of all? Marks and Spencer now stock the pre-mixed treat in stores, so getting your hands on a glass is a simple as a trip to your local high street.
‘A base of citrussy white wine and spring water made at Denbies in Surrey is enriched with London dry Gin from the Langley Distillery, adding complex layers of juniper and botanical notes,’ they say of the aromatic beverage.
GinKing is on shelves with a price tag of £13 per bottle, or you can order a case of six online for £78 – great for bigger gatherings, or perhaps even a summer wedding.
Once it’s safely in your possession, M&S recommend enjoying GinKing chilled, ‘either in a flute glass by itself or with a twist of orange peel, or try it poured over ice in a highball with slices of orange and lemon.’
We don’t know about you, but we think we just found our new go-to tipple.
